Hello, my name is Tim Hill and I am a landscape/seascape photographer from Pontefract, West Yorkshire. Like many of you, I love being outdoors, quite often just being amongst the sights, smells and sounds of nature is enough but double the pleasure when I have the camera with me. I have special childhood memories of trips to the seaside with my parents, it’s so nice to return and create more this time through the lens of my camera. Thank you very much for purchasing my work!

Castleford

Castleford is a town in the City of Wakefield, West Yorkshire, England. The town is the site of a Roman settlement. Within the historical Castleford Borough are the suburbs of Airedale, Cutsyke, Ferry Fryston, Fryston Village, Glasshoughton, Half Acres, Hightown, Lock Lane, Townville, Wheldale and Whitwood. To the north of the town centre the River Calder joins the River Aire and the Aire and Calder Navigation.

This digital watercolours collection is a continuation of the creative process from going out and taking an image with the camera to processing the image on a computer, in my case a Mac, to transforming the finished image into a digital watercolour using Photoshop. For me it's as much about the creative process as it is the end result. I hope you enjoy my landscapes and seascapes as watercolours.

Spurn Point Nature Reserve

Spurn Point Nature Reserve

Spurn Point is Yorkshire's very own Lands End - an iconic and constantly moving peninsula which curves between the North Sea and the Humber Estuary. After the storm surge of 2013 Spurn can be cut off by the tide twice a day so tide times should be studied carefully or you'll end up in the shed, put there for just that purpose! Spurn Point is also home to two disused lighthouses, WW2 pillboxes and a narrow pier that leads to the Humber lifeboat.

Whitby

Whitby is a seaside town in Yorkshire, northern England, split by the River Esk. On the East Cliff, overlooking the North Sea, the ruined Gothic Whitby Abbey was Bram Stoker’s inspiration for “Dracula”. Nearby is the Church of St. Mary, reached by 199 steps. Even in the old graveyard there's a lovely smell of Whitby Kippers smoked at the famous Fortunes Kippers in nearby Henrietta Street.

Saltburn-by-the-Sea is a seaside town in Redcar and Cleveland, North Yorkshire, England, around 26 miles south-east of Hartlepool. Saltburn Pier is the last remaining pier in Yorkshire. Designed by John Anderson and owned by Redcar and Cleveland Council, the 681ft long pier opened in 1869. It is also familiar for the cliff lift which links it to the edge of the town. Reopened as a Grade II*-listed building in 2001, it was awarded the title of 'Pier of the Year' eight years later by the National Piers Society.

The ruins of Tenby Castle are on a headland overlooking the harbour. Exhibits at Tenby Museum and Art Gallery include a 16th-century wrought-iron cannon. The Tudor Merchant’s House recreates domestic life in 1500, with a merchant's shop and working kitchen.

Taken with fond memories and love around the Yorkshire Dales National Park in England. It encompasses thousands of square miles of moors, valleys, hills and villages. Southeast, on the River Wharfe, the Bolton Abbey Estate includes the ruins of a 12th-century monastery. Malham Village features a towering cliff, and a footpath leading to Gordale Scar, a limestone ravine with waterfalls.

Always remember to take suntan cream and a waterproof coat...

In photography the word Seascape is art which depicts the sea, like Landscape depicts images of land, but enough about all that, being at the seaside has the power to soothe and calm and take us beyond the stresses of everyday life. The sound of the waves, the unmistakable smell of the sea and the sound of the seagulls all connect to happy memories and people, family, friends here and gone. Raw nature at her beautiful best.

Scarborough

Scarborough is a resort town on England’s North Sea coast and the first victorian holiday and bathing resort in the UK. Its 2 bays with sandy beaches are split by a headland bearing the 12th-century Scarborough Castle. The Victorian Central Tramway funicular train links the town centre with South Bay and its harbour. The Rotunda Museum explores local coastal geology. Scarborough SEA LIFE Sanctuary's marine displays and the Peasholm Park Japanese gardens are behind North Bay.

From the Hope Valley to Mam Tor to Winnats Pass, Ladybower Reservoir and beyond, the Derbyshire Peak District has stunning beauty and was my favourite place to photograph in 2020. The Peak District National Park is officially the first National Park in the UK, founded in 1951. The National Park spreads over five counties; Cheshire, Staffordshire, Yorkshire and Greater Manchester, covering an area of 555 sq miles. The “Peak District” name derives from peac, an Old English word meaning hill.

Filey

Filey

The beach resort of Filey and surrounding North Yorkshire moors have been inhabited for an estimated 3,000 years and the local museum has artifacts to back this up. Arrow heads and flint stones have been found locally that date from the era. That said, Filey is best known as a family holiday resort with a large award winning beach, not to mention fish & chips and icecreams, yum! Filey Brigg is a partially submerged ridge of Oolite rock that has caused many shipping mishaps including in 1932 the trawler ‘James Lay’, also on the promenade is a drinking fountain erected by James Varley, (hotelier), for Queen Victoria’s diamond jubilee in 1897.

Pontefract Castle

Pontefract Castle

Described as 'one of the greatest fortresses in England” it has been one of the most important castles in the North of England. In its past the Bailey was used to grow liquorice and the crop would be stored in the castle dungeons. Pontefract Castle is certainly something that Cromwell's soldiers knocked about a bit. During the English Civil War it was held by the Royalists throughout three sieges and was the last royal castle to fall to the Parliamentarians.
