Wells next the Sea Norfolk

This is Wells next the Sea in Norfolk. It is a beautiful and historic seaside resort and port which has been a safe haven for sailors for 600 years and was once one of the great ports of eastern England in Tudor times. The port is sheltered by salt marshes and pinewoods which stretch between Holkham and Salthouse. Also known for it's colourful beach huts and beautiful sandy beach. The harbour has many pontoons and moorings for recreational sailors and a crab and lobster fishing fleet. Access to the sea for boats is via the East Fleet where you will see the lifeboat station , the Beacon and the sculpture Lifeboat Horse by artist Rachael Long which marks the work of horses used to tow the lifeboat out to sea in the 19th century. Cley next the Sea Norfolk

Standing in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty the village of Cley next the Sea stretches along the coast road where there are many access points onto the Norfolk Coast Path and Cley Marshes. The marsh is Norfolk Wildlife Trust's oldest and best known nature reserve. The 18th Century Cley Windmill stands next to the small harbour on the River Glaven which, centuries ago, used to be one of the busiest ports in England. The architecture of many of it's houses have a Flemish influence. A fishing industry thrives here with crab and lobster boats launching from the shingle beach. It is the go to place on the North Norfolk Coast for visitors to the area. My home page is fully searchable for anything more specific. Thanks for looking.

Wells next the Sea Norfolk

Popular images from this favourite Norfolk holiday destination, Wells still has a working harbour with lots of leisure craft , where boats land fish and crabs, working boats are busy servicing the huge offshore windfarm that you can just see from the sandy beach with its line of colourful beach huts. In the harbour also stands the iron horse sculpture that commemorates the horses that helped launch the heavy wooden lifeboat.
