Thousands of men once toiled in incredibly harsh conditions in the slate mines and quarries of Wales. As this industry declined the rugged landscape slowly reclaimed the structures left behind by man. These relics form a very important part of the history of Wales but are interesting subjects to both explore and photograph. I like to think my photos in this collection area tribute to this slate workers of old and will help to keep their memory and that of their industry alive.

The landscapes of Wales
Wales is a rugged, beautiful and slightly mystical land (with its legends of dragons). It lends the photographer a never ending source of inspiration from the rugged peaks of Snowdonia, to quiet hidden corners and the beauty of its coastline and beaches. This is a collection of photos which I hope reflects that variety and its draw and mystery.

Northumberland
Northumberland holds a special place in my heart ever since my wife took me to Holy Island. It is such a wonderful calm and mysterious place and so much at peace when the tide forces the tourists off the island. Then though you start to explore the county further and soon realise how rich and incredibly beautiful its landscapes are. I could easily and peacefully end my days in that area and I hope a little of the peace and serenity comes across in this collection.
Arctic Landscapes
The Arctic in winter is an incredibly harsh environment with temperatures often plummeting to near unimaginable lows. The snow and the subdued light make however for magical landscapes that for me remind me of snowy days, warm fires and warming food with the twinkling lights of Xmas. I hope these photos evoke similar good memories with you and yours.
Seascapes
The coast line of the UK is stunningly beautiful with its rugged cliff vistas, its long beaches etc. but the moods of the sea add immensely to the draw of the coast and I often find myself drawn to the sea to witness its gentle calm or the majesty of a crashing storm. Hopefully some of the moods are reflected in this set of pictures.
